Cannabidiol, more commonly known CBD oil has become a popular natural remedy for many physical and mental illnesses associated with 21st century society. However, can this new wave of natural remedy cure those who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome more commonly known as IBS.
The readers of this article who themselves suffer from IBS or have close family or friends who suffer know the everyday struggle associated with IBS. IBS sufferers are constantly following the latest trends in diets and magic cures which they see on the internet and tend to be more fiction than fact and are presented to us in the form of clickbait articles to draw us in and offer little or no value.
In this post, we will explain CBD oil its benefits and it can be used to tackle IBS.
What is CBD Oil
CBD oil is an extract from the hemp plant itself. It contains 85 different natural chemicals known as cannabinoids. CBD oil is known to have many benefits for the human bodies health and well being one of which is aiding suffers from IBS.
Does CBD Oil Help IBS?
Gut motility and hypersensitivity are the two main causes of IBS within humans. The human digestive system contains many cannabinoid receptors in its walls. These receptors interact with the cannabinoids in CBD oil. This interaction will affect how the digestive system of the CBD oil will function.
The activation of these cannabinoids receptors in the human body decreases the two main causes of IBS in humans it reduces motility and decreases the sensitivity of the gut.
Dr. Verbora who has 200 patients who suffer from IBS states that treating IBS is very difficult and can take time threw many methods such as dietary changes etc.. however, his patients who have tried CBD oil have stated it has been the most beneficial in providing relief from IBS symptoms.
Can CBD Oil stop Diarrhea?
As we have talked about in other sections of this post the human body contains cannabinoid receptors in its digestive system and these receptors absorb the cannabinoid from the CBD oils we intake.
When our body absorbs these oils, it has a reaction with our digestive system. The cannabinoid receptors agonists delay the process called gastric emptying of the human bowels.
Also, it is found that cannabinoids bind with receptors in the small and large intestines. This binding reduces inflammation, muscle contractions and reduce spasms in this area which cause diarrhea.
Can CBD Oil thin your blood?
As we have discussed CBD oil has many benefits to the human body, however, there may be some changes to how your body reacts to other substances while you are intaking CBD oil. Most medications taking are metabolized into the human through a set of enzymes in the liver called cytochrome P450, or CYP450.
These enzymes are the same ones in which break down CBD oil in the human body. It is found that CBD is a strong inhibitor of these enzymes. Basically, this means that while you are taking CBD oil it reduces the ability of these enzymes to metabolize other medications you are taking.
Taking CBD oil when on blood thinning medication can be dangerous as it can allow more of the medication (Warfarin) into the body than is needed resulting in extremely thin blood which can be dangerous. For example, a person who has been put on medication to thin their blood such as warfarin or Coumadin will need to discuss introducing CBD oil into their system.
Can CBD oil help your leaky gut?
Are you feeling tired constantly or just run down and can’t quite put your finger on what is the cause of these symptoms? The cause of these may be an internal problem such as leaky gut which can cause chronic fatigue and even multiple sclerosis.
Leaky gut is when our body reacts to toxins, germs or other harmful substances which enter the bloodstream threw the walls in the bowel. This is allowed to happen when the walls of the gut or bowel become weak or loose and lose their filtering abilities.
The cannabinoid receptors we have discussed which absorb the CBD oil into our system are known to strengthen and maintain the effectiveness of tight junctions in the human gut which are responsible for filtering or only allowing nutrients and water into our system. Also, CBD and other phytocannabinoids have a positive impact on how our gut reacts to food i.e. helping manage our inflammatory response which is essential for a healthy and leak-free gut.
Can CBD oil help with my Gastric Acid?
We all know someone whether it be ourselves a family member friend or work colleague who suffers from gastric symptoms. We know the pain and daily suffering these close to us go through. The complicated process of attending or making up excuses not to attend or having to leave early from a family or work meals and the stress caused hoping your stomach doesn’t act up and the constant chopping and changing of diets or new medication.
A sufferer of gastric will find certain foods such as spicy foods or alcohol such as beers and wines. Symptoms generally consist of burning pain in the stomach, bloating, indigestion, loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea and in server cases stomach ulcers and cancer.
CBD can be used to reduce side effects symptoms of gastric such as loss of appetite nausea, pain, and vomiting.
However, CBD can be used in treating the causes of gastric. The primary cause of gastric is inflammation of the gut lining. As we have discussed in this post already CBD produces cannabinoids which act with the gut to prevent inflammation.
A study carried out in Bath and Bristol University in 2005 proved that cannabis is an effective method in treating gastritis and bowel disease. This study stated that cannabis reacts with cannabinoid receptors in the bowel and gut to treat gastritis and bowel diseases.
As you can see from this post-CBD has some amazing benefits to all who take it. It can provide health benefits to a wide range of illness that is very common and difficult to treat even now in 2019. I myself now so many friends and family who all have their own stories of their struggles or loved ones struggle with stomach/bowel illness. It is amazing for me to see the wide range of benefits CBD provides for those who suffer from IBS. IBS for those who have it or know of suffers is a constant struggle and is next to impossible to cure so seeing the benefits CBD provides to these people brings me much joy.
Personally, I know many friends who suffer from tiredness or lack of energy even after a good nights sleep. After using CBD however, these symptoms were dramatically improved after using CBD oil. This may be linked to the condition discussed the leaky gut. This illness is very hard to treat or spot but I am happy these people have found CBD to treat these symptoms even if it is not a leaky gut.
