CBD For Period Pain – Can Hemp Oil Relieve Menstrual Cramps?

CBD For Period Pain

I have a friend who gets the worst period pain. On some days she can’t even get out of bed. She is sometimes physically doubled over in pain. We all know that feeling. Your back hurts, your lower abdomen hurts and sometimes the pain is unbearable. It feels as if your insides are being ripped apart.

This friend of mine was even prescribed schedule 5 medication from the GP. And they didn’t seem to help her. She then went to see a homeopath and he prescribed CBD oil.

Guess what? After taking the CBD she had no pain whatsoever! The CBD oil worked better for her than schedule 5 painkillers!

If you have felt this way, you are not alone. Did you know that 90% of women suffer from painful periods?

So if you have ever had period cramps from hell, keep reading!

Use CBD oil for menstrual cramps and be pain-free!

As I mentioned earlier, CBD oil worked better for my friend, than schedule 5 prescription medication. Why is this you may ask? There are many studies that highlight the amazing health benefits of CBD. One of the main reasons why CBD helps for period pain is that it acts as an anti-inflammatory.

During your period, your progesterone levels drop, and prostaglandins increase. These Prostaglandins, cause the inflammation during your period. This chemical also causes all the other nasty symptoms of menstruation.

Prostaglandins also make pain nerves more sensitive during your period. It’s also interesting to note that these same chemicals cause blood vessels to constrict and this, in turn, causes the endometrial tissue to die.

These same prostaglandins also cause the uterine to contract and this can be extremely painful. Women who have higher amounts of Prostaglandins, tend to have heavier periods too.

This is what happens during your period and why you will experience the pain that you feel. CBD helps to combat all of these horrible symptoms. Firstly as mentioned above, CBD helps reduce inflammation. The amazing thing is that not only does CBD inhibit inflammation but it also inhibits the prostaglandin producing enzymes.

For more information on how this happens, read you can read this article published by PubMed (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18556441

So when CBD inhibits the increase of prostaglandins, inflammation also decreases, which in turn leads to less painful periods.

CBD also helps to desensitize pain nerve endings, this then will also help with the amount of pain that you experience during your period.

You can watch this video by Dr. Danie Gordon on YouTube. She explains how CBD works for chronic pain and why it works.

Paracetamol VS CBD

Paracetamol can be used to treat period pain, but it is not as effective as Ibuprofen for example. Paracetamol does not have anti-inflammatory properties, such as Ibuprofen. Therefore CBD seems to work better than paracetamol for period cramps because of how it decreases inflammation during your periods. If you would like to know more about how Paracetamol works in our bodies to reduce the pain you can read this article (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1365-2710.2009.01143.x)

Can CBD affect your menstrual cycle?

Studies have shown that THC has a negative effect on your periods. For example, if you are trying to fall pregnant TCH might actually block ovulation. Which could cause problems with falling pregnant? Other studies have shown that THC can also stop an embryo from implanting in your womb.

Interestingly though CBD does not have these negative effects. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system which could actually help to regulate your cycles. If you are trying to fall pregnant CBD could also help increase your desire for sex. A study published in 2012 by PMC shows the effects of CBD in the sexual arousal of women. ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3856894/) There are still not enough studies though that show how CBD and the reproductive system work together.

CBD Tampons?

CBD tampons? Really?

When I read that you could get CBD tampons, I thought this sounds interesting. CBD tampons are not like your traditional tampons. They are more of a vaginal suppository, that is bullet-shaped and an inch long, that you insert into your vagina.

The suppository contains about 100mg of CBD. It takes about 15-20min to work and once it works, you will feel pain relief. This helps with getting to the source of your pain faster. The treatment is localized.

The only problem with CBD suppositories is that they are quite expensive. But they do seem to work. Many women have said that they do help with pain relief.

A study is being done at Harvard by Dr. Staci Gruber, which will show the results of using CBD tampons. There are 400 women are taking part in the study over a period of a few months. The results should be out in September. It will be really interesting to see what the results are.

What other CBD products could you use for period pain?

There are many CBD products that you could use for painful periods. You could use a full spectrum pure CBD oil, that you would drop under your tongue. You could use a few drops or half of the dropper. A good idea would be to start using the CBD oil a few days before your period to make sure that it is in your system.

The best brands of CBD oil for period cramps is CBDPure, Joy Organics and Green Flower Botanicals.

You could also use CBD capsules or CBD gummies if you don’t like the taste of CBD oil.

What’s the verdict?

CBD works wonders for period pain. As my gorgeous friend found out. It is a natural and fantastic product to use to help you during Aunt Flo’s visit. It has even been used to treat women with endometriosis. So if you are looking for a safe alternative to use each month, try CBD oil!
